Daily Journal December 19, 1997. Meditate on the Word of the Lord all day. This is Friday and I have travel on my mind. I want to go to the coast to show my new water color painting and on to St. Augustine because the owner spends Saturdays at the Fort. I must do all the routine things and then get myself ready, pack my clothes and tell Janette I am leaving. If all goes well, I should be on the road by11am. I listen to inner voices in my mind as I rush to the countdown to make it or not make it, to be or not to be. Have I promised someone any of my time today? At 12 noon I am on the way entering traffic on I-385 after a Citgo fill up. It is non-stop for 250 miles via I-26 and I-95 to Beaufort, South Carolina and on out onto St. Helena’s Island where the largest folk art gallery in the state is, the Red Piano II Gallery. I know the owner as Elan. Elan has a nice display of my art paintings and she likes my new water colors especially the flower horse’s heads. I told Elan about my plans to have a mobile Christian art museum on a city bus. Elan Scott told me that was a great idea and insist I promise her to drive the bus to her place for her yearly art show August 1st, 1998. This concept will serve well for art shows in addition to churches and schools. This drive eastward to the low country took 3 hours at 70 mph on cruise. It is now 5 pm and my visit is complete, I am on my way to Hilton Head where Folk Art dealer Joe Adams lives and has America O'Yes in addition to 2 galleries in Washington, D.C. Elan requested to keep and frame 7 water colors. Praise God! I had called Joe on his watts line as I passed through Columbia the Capitol and left a message on this voice mail of my hope to be there by 5. It turns out that Joe is out of town and his daughter returned my call while I was out of the car and my new digital phone would have told me this if I had called back to Greenville to check for messages but I did not. This new phone is very complicated like this new word processor printer. Rent on the new phone is only $5 per month and this new writer was only $220.00. Amazing how cheap this new modern technology is. Jde19"...those who separate themselves, having not the spirit" It is a hard drive to get off the Island and back onto Hilton Head where I enjoyed dinner of oyster rockefellow alone. It is now time to drive back off Hilton Head Island and join I-95 South bound via Savannah using I-16. It is very dark about 8pm and tonight the major stars are all up there in one row with the moon shining. Moss is hanging from the trees in this part. I missed the short cut to the big new bridge over the Savannah River; I did a 180 to make sure I see the lights from high up over head. I did see and it was so beautiful. I was soon on I-95 9 miles West of Savannah and at the next town Diamond Hill I saw a $22.00 Motel 6. I like this chain because they never up their price on busy nights plus they are consistently clean and have handicapped rooms with parking so I can back up to the door to off load my luggage. No charge for local calls. I ask for a 5am wakeup call because I was due in St. Augustine by 8am on Saturday and I cannot be late for this important meeting. Dear Lord, may my steps count for thee, make me from Satan free. I stopped at a local Holiday Inn to brush my teeth and use a clean bathroom before I can continue. I also stopped next door where real folk art is on display and being made by Richard who has Gilliun Barre the same as me, his hands look like mine. Richard cuts out all types of figures like animals and silhouettes of people. Richard wants very much to share in the art at the Fort. For the night I go to Daytona Beach where I stay at Red Carpet Inn on the beach.
